Czech Personalized Stamps

Czech Postal Administration issued first personalized stamp in 2003 to celebrate the Czech – German philatelic exhibition OSTROPA (see information about the exhibition).

For the stamp design a theme ”Roses Above Prague” contained in a poem written by famous Czech poet Jaroslav Seiffert (Nobel Prize Winner) has been chosen. Every stamp bears label useful for private imprints. The stamp has been issued in souv. sheets consisting of 9 stamps and 12 labels. On labels it is allowed to print a text (slogan, congratulation, greeting … ). Every order gets a serial number which is printed on the souv. sheet.

The stamps have been introduced to public in two stages: first souv. sheet was issued on March 26, 2003 with labels bearing slogan ”Kupon pro Vas” (Label for You) informing public about the new service of Postal Administration.

Second stage came into effect on April 24, 2003, when the OSTROPA exhibition was open . On that day the service was prepared for public and true private imprints on the stamp started to be produced on Client´s orders.

The private imprints can be ordered from Czech Postal Administration in every quantity from one sheet to unlimited number of sheets. They are allowed snaps, company logos or pictures, which don´t offend public, the postal administration has right to refuse a motif.

Very popular are the stamps among public using them as original gift to friends or by companies promoting by them business e.g. by franking invitation letters with the stamps.

And finally have you known, that the personalized stamps are descendants of the podlepka slips of 19th century ?
